Biography

From birth Remko knew what he had to do to get attention. He could scream/shout/yell/roar and all of that astonishingly loud! And that has never changed! Even in his young years it was clear that he had fantastic singing capabilities and enjoyed singing for his family and friends. As a teenager Remko was singing with the gospel choir Ronduit and after high school/ secondary school he decided to study at the Brabants Conservatorium. He completed his study, with a lead module in singing and drama, in 2004.
During his study Remko was privileged enough to receive lessons from the renowned singing coach Edward Hoepelman, drama teacher Anita UitdeHaag and Minou Bosua. In his dance module he was taught by Carolien Neyendorff (classical ballet) and Dick Swanborn (jazz ballet). Remko also took workshops with Lennette van Dongen, Willem Nijholt and Seth Gaaikema among others.
During his study Remko worked on productions as Maxima de Musical, the musical ‘Rent’, ‘Into the Woods’ and ‘Sweeney Todd’. After his study he was casted for the roll of Jonathan in the musical ‘Doornroosje’ from studio 100. In 2004 Remko sang in ‘Jeans 14’. He enjoyed this so much that he decided to continue performing with this production in ‘Jeans 15’.
In 2005 Remko was asked to coordinate the choreography a semi- professional gosper choir. This was parallel to his new roll of the ‘Rat catcher’ which he performed in the prestigious musical production ‘Rembrandt, the musical’. The media applauded him with very positive critic.
As of April 2008, Remko has been casted in Hollands’ most distinguished musical, ‘Les Misérables’. Next to his ensemble roll where he performs the character Feuilly, Remko is also the understudy for the roll of ‘Marius’ (played by Jamai, Dutch Idol’s winner).
Next to his work in the musical world, Remko performs as a solo artist. His CD-single ‘Just as I am’ is an amazing acknowledgement of his superb vocal abilities in the musical concerto! The Dutch Christian music agenda has reviewed his CD-single: “In an apt way Harms manages to combine an intimate gospel/praise sound with an extravagant musical sound by means of using his exquisite tenor voice, which manages to sound just right”.
